Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about charcoal grills, accessories and shipping
Which Slow 'N Sear® Insert Should I Buy?
How does the Slow 'N Sear® work?
The Slow 'N Sear® is a revolutionary kettle grill accessory specifically designed to convert your kettle grill into a smoker and a blistering hot sear machine — all with one device.
Is there a Slow 'N Sear® that will work in a Weber Ranch Kettle?
Two Slow 'N Sear® XL or two Slow 'N Sear® Deluxe inserts work great in the Ranch Kettle. (Note: the previously produced RKE model has been discontinued due to high manufacturing costs.)
Is there a Slow 'N Sear® for the Weber Summit® Charcoal grill?
Yes! The Slow 'N Sear® Low Profile is shorter (charcoal grate to food grate distance) to accommodate grills such as the Weber Summit® Charcoal Grill.
How many different Slow 'N Sear® sizes are available?
There are four sizes: the Slow 'N Sear® Charcoal Basket, the original Slow 'N Sear®, the Slow 'N Sear® Deluxe (same dimensions as the Original), the Slow 'N Sear® XL and the Slow 'N Sear® Low Profile.
How do I know if a Slow 'N Sear® will fit?
Compare specifications to your grill's dimensions. Keep in mind that height (charcoal grate-to-food grate distance) is just as important as length and width.
| Model | Length | Depth | Height |
|---|---|---|---|
| Original & Deluxe | 53.3 cm | 21.6 cm | 12.1 cm |
| Low Profile | 53.7 cm | 21.6 cm | 9.5 cm |
| XL | 60.3 cm | 24.1 cm | 12.1 cm |
| Charcoal Basket | 40 cm | 21.3 cm | 8.6 cm |
Will you be making a Slow 'N Sear® to fit other grills?
Products are in development, many originating from customer feedback. Currently no Slow 'N Sear® is available for: Kamado Joe, Primo, PK Grill, Dancook®, Weber Smokey Joe®, Weber Go-Anywhere, Char-Broil® Kettleman®, STOK Drum™, or Char-Griller®.
Help! I Think My Slow 'N Sear® May Have a Problem
I can't get my kettle with the Slow 'N Sear® hot enough (175°C+)
Two key needs for hot fire are fuel (charcoal/wood) and air.
- Start with 1/2 to full chimney of fully lit charcoal
- Open air vents and ensure they aren't clogged with ash
- Keep charcoal dry — if stored outside or in humid environments, it may not burn as well
My Slow 'N Sear® won't get down to 107°C
"Low 'n slow" means 107–121°C. If the grill settles at 115–121°C, that's acceptable.
- Close vents until nearly closed — the Slow 'N Sear® burns charcoal efficiently
- Check lid for leaks and use binder clips if needed
- Check if lid is round by laying it on a flat surface
- Use a spray bottle with water to cool coals quickly if overshooting
It appears my water reservoir is leaking. Do I have a faulty product?
If leaking is confirmed, the manufacturer will replace it — every Slow 'N Sear® is water tested before leaving the factory. However, the humid environment during low 'n slow cooking creates condensation that appears to be leaking.
To test: after cooling, place on a table and fill the reservoir with water to check for actual leaks.
My water reservoir warped during my last cook. Is this normal?
It's not uncommon for the water reservoir to warp during high-heat cooking — this is a natural characteristic of stainless steel. After numerous cooks, a small curvature may remain, which has no effect on capacity or function.

Questions About the Slow 'N Sear® Deluxe
Why a new version?
Changes to the manufacturing process allowed us to update the design, maintain the same price, and deliver the same performance and quality of the original Slow 'N Sear®.
How is the Deluxe different from the original?
Aside from the removable reservoir, functionally they are similar in performance. Outer dimensions are unchanged.
Can I remove the water reservoir during a low 'n slow cook?
We don't recommend it. Beyond holding water, the reservoir functions as a double-wall thermal barrier between the coals and the indirect cooking surface.
What's the difference between 430 and 304 stainless steel?
Type 430 contains 17% chromium and 0.12% carbon while 304 contains 18% chromium and 0.08% carbon. Both are high quality steels resistant to rust and corrosion that can withstand extreme temperatures. Our warranty remains the same for both.
Will you be making the Slow 'N Sear® Plus again?
The Slow 'N Sear® Deluxe replaces this product. The Plus has been discontinued. Warranties on existing products will continue to be honored.
What are the dimensions of the Deluxe?
53.3 cm length × 12.1 cm height × 21.6 cm depth.
What grills work with the Deluxe?
- SNS Grills Kettle
- SNS Grills Kamado
- All 57 cm Weber® kettles: Original, One Touch Silver/Gold, Master Touch, all Performers
- All 57 cm Napoleon® kettles: NK22CK-L, PRO22K-LEG, PRO22K-CART-2

Can I use an automated controller fan with the Slow 'N Sear®?
Certainly! However, the Slow 'N Sear® is designed to hold steady temps without additional equipment. Follow our lighting instructions for hassle-free cooks of 8+ hours — no fans needed!
Can I use lump charcoal, or even straight wood?
Certainly! The Slow 'N Sear® will burn any fuel that can be used in a kettle. If using straight wood, we suggest you pre-burn until it gives off clean smoke, otherwise you risk bitter creosote flavor.
Questions About the Slow 'N Sear® Charcoal Basket
What are the dimensions?
40 cm length × 8.6 cm height × 21.3 cm depth.
Where is the water reservoir?
Space limitations in 47 cm kettles / Weber Jumbo Joe® prevent including a safe vertical water reservoir. The Charcoal Basket creates a two-zone cooking environment — and it works great! A water pan on top of the coals can provide moisture if needed.
How is it different from standard charcoal baskets?
First, it's much bigger than standard baskets. It holds twice as much fuel for longer burns and a larger sear zone. It also has a double-wall barrier between the fuel and the indirect cooking surface, keeping temperatures stable and preventing "hot spots".
Can I use the Charcoal Basket in a 57 cm kettle?
Yes, but you won't get the same performance as the full Slow 'N Sear®. The Basket is smaller and shorter. However, it's a great way to taste the possibilities the full Slow 'N Sear® offers.
What grills work with the Charcoal Basket?
- SNS Grills Kettle
- SNS Grills Travel Kettle
- 47 cm Weber® Kettle
- 47 cm Weber® Smokey Mountain
- Weber Jumbo Joe®
- 57 cm Jumbo Joe® Premium
- 57 cm Weber® Compact Kettle
- Weber® Summit Charcoal
Questions About the 57 cm SNS Grills Kettle
What's the difference between Deluxe Kettle and Original Kettle?
The grill itself is exactly the same! The only difference is one comes with the Original Slow 'N Sear® and the other with the Deluxe.
Is there a port for thermometer probes?
Yes! A 1.3 cm circular digital thermometer probe port for more accurate readings.
Can I use a thermostatic controller?
Yes! The SNS Grills Kettle has a 2.5 cm circular bottom vent where a controller can be attached.
Does it come with a gasket?
The aramid fiber gasket kit for better air control during low 'n slow cooking is sold separately. The SNS Grills Kettle has a great seal, so the gasket is not necessary but can be a nice addition.
Will a Vortex made for 57 cm Weber® kettles work in the SNS Kettle?
Yes! The EasySpin Cooking Grate that comes standard with all our grills is made from 304 stainless steel and designed to accommodate additional accessories.
Questions About the 47 cm Travel Kettle
Do standard Weber charcoal baskets fit in the Travel Kettle?
Yes, but our Slow 'N Sear® Charcoal Basket is so much better!

Either side can be used for cooking. It's only necessary to season the side you choose to cook on.
