How to Clean a Charcoal Grill — The Complete Guide
Proper grill cleaning extends your grill's life and improves food flavor. A detailed guide to cleaning grill grates, interior, ash, and exterior.
Grill cleaning is an essential part of grill maintenance. A clean grill doesn't just cook better — it's also safer, extends the life of your grill, and prevents grease buildup that can cause dangerous flare-ups.
When to Clean Your Grill
Our recommendation: a quick clean after every use, and a deep clean once every one to two months (depending on how often you grill). Don't wait until the grill is really dirty — regular maintenance saves time and money.
Cleaning the Grill Grate
The most effective way to clean a grill grate is with heat. Heat the grill to maximum temperature (250°C+ / 480°F+) and close the lid for 15 minutes. Food residue will carbonize and turn to ash, which is easy to brush off with a grill brush.
For stainless steel grates like the EasySpin™ — you can also soak them overnight in a plastic bag with oven cleaner and hot water. Rinse thoroughly before the next use.
Cleaning the Interior
Remove the grate and the Slow 'N Sear® system (if present). Use a plastic scraper to scrape charcoal and grease residue from the walls. Do not use chemical cleaners inside — just hot water and a towel.
Ash Cleanup
Empty the ash collector after every use. Ash left at the bottom of the grill absorbs moisture and accelerates rust. Make sure the ash is completely cool before disposing.
Exterior Cleaning
Wipe the exterior with a damp cloth and a little soap. For grills with porcelain enamel coating like the Master Kettle and Black Edition — do not use steel wool, which can scratch the coating.
Use a Cover
The best way to keep a grill clean is to prevent dirt in the first place. A waterproof, UV-resistant grill cover protects from rain, dust, and dirt. SNS Grills offers fitted covers for every model, available at snsgrills.co.il.
